ELI 061 - Integrated Speaking, Listening & Note Taking. 6 Credits.

(R-36) This course develops the English language with an emphasis on academic speaking and listening skills. English instruction will be delivered through readings, presentations, and activities related to changing themes throughout the course. The course will complement and build upon a concurrent course on academic writing and reading for English language learners. The goals of the course are to improve fluency, increase competency in conversation, and engage and lead presentations.

ELI 062 - Integrated Reading and Writing. 6 Credits.

(R-36) This course is designed to help students further develop reading and writing competencies, particularly those important to the deep critical thinking needed as a university student. The course will cultivate varied reading strategies useful for textual comprehension, analysis, reflection, and critique of authentic texts in varied genres. It will explore effective strategies for generating, revising, and editing authentic texts in varied genres. Throughout the semester the course will use both reading and writing processes for critical inquiry and discovery in relation to varied topics. We will also practice vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, which will help students develop more fluency. At the end of the semester, students should be able to demonstrate mastery of course outcomes through a portfolio and an exam (iTEP).

ELI 091 - Special Topics. 6 Credits.

(R-36) Offered intermittently. Experimental offerings of visiting professors, experimental offerings of new courses, or one-time offerings of current topics.
