University of Montana Catalog 2023-2024

Art M.A.

Master of Arts - Art

Degree Specific Credits: 30

Required Cumulative GPA: 3.0

Notes

There are two areas of specialization for the M.A. in Art:

Art History

  • The M.A. in Art History focuses on research in the historical and cultural context of visual art. It prepares students for advanced graduate work at the Ph.D. level, and careers in art-related professions in museums, galleries, arts organizations and conservation departments.

Studio Art

  • This degree requires fewer credits than an M.F.A while still providing a graduate experience.  While not designed for those wishing to pursue a professorship after school, it includes many of the crucial features of our graduate program.
