Linguistics B.A.

General Degree Requirements

To earn a baccalaureate degree, all students must complete successfully, in addition to any other requirements, the University of Montana General Education Requirements. Please refer to the General Education Requirements page for more information.

Unless otherwise noted in individual program requirements, a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all work attempted at the University of Montana-Missoula is required for graduation. Please see the Academic Policies and Procedures page for information on how your GPA is calculated.

Courses taken to satisfy the requirements of a major, minor, or certificate program must be completed with a grade of C- or better unless a higher grade is noted in the program requirements.

Four Year Plan

Note: 8-10 credits of language coursework are required for this major. Language courses and placement exams taken to satisfy General Education Requirements cannot be used to satisfy the language requirement for the major. Any combination of languages courses can be used to satisfy the major's language requirement, as long as the courses were not also used to satisfy the General Education Requirements for Foreign Language

Five Year B.A./M.A. Plan (Undergraduate Portion Only)

Students in this program complete a total of 96 undergraduate (UG) credits by Year 3 and apply to the graduate program. If accepted, students take 12 graduate credits in Year 4 as undergraduate, which are transferred to the graduate school in Year 5 (graduate)

LING 471/LING 571 and LING 472/LING 572 rotate as a fall-only offering and will not be offered in the same year. BA/MA students will take LING 572 in Year 5 (Graduate School)

Advanced Writing can be fulfilled with one of the following Linguistics Electives: LING 473 (Spring only) or LING 484 (Fall only)
