Spanish B.A.

General Degree Requirements

To earn a baccalaureate degree, all students must complete successfully, in addition to any other requirements, the University of Montana General Education Requirements. Please refer to the General Education Requirements page for more information.

Unless otherwise noted in individual program requirements, a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all work attempted at the University of Montana-Missoula is required for graduation. Please see the Academic Policies and Procedures page for information on how your GPA is calculated.

Courses taken to satisfy the requirements of a major, minor, or certificate program must be completed with a grade of C- or better unless a higher grade is noted in the program requirements.

Bachelor of Arts - Spanish

  • Students are required to maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 in all upper-division courses presented in fulfillment of requirements for the Spanish major.

Course Requirements

Lower-Division Core Courses
Complete all of the following courses:
SPNS 101Elementary Spanish I4
SPNS 102Elementary Spanish II4
SPNS 201Intermediate Spanish I4
SPNS 202Intermediate Spanish II4
Upper-Division Core Courses
SPNS 301Spanish: Oral and Written Expression (may be taken concurrently with any other 300-level Spanish course)3
Complete all of the following courses:
SPNS 315Topics in Hispanic Culture3
SPNS 499Senior Thesis/Capstone3
WLC 391Special Topics3
Additional Upper-Division Spanish Electives
Complete 18 credits of upper-division courses in Spanish. 6 credits need to be 400 level content courses: SPNS 400, SPNS 432, SPNS 465, SPNS 466, SPNS 491, SPNS 492 or SPNS 494. The remaining 12 credits could be completed by taking any combination of the upper-division elective courses. 18
