General Graduate Program Requirements

The minimum GPA for any graduate program is 3.0. Individual programs may require more than a 3.0 to remain in good standing. 

The minimum grade for a course to be accepted toward any requirement is C. Individual programs may require higher grades for specific courses.

MASTER OF FINE ARTS - ART

At the core of our M.F.A. program is a close one-on-one mentorship with professors and regular critiques with fellow students. Students investigate ideas and process deeply and develop their understanding through studio work, research, writing, presentation, and critical analysis. The coursework includes:

  • individual study with professors,
  • theory and criticism,
  • professional development and college teaching,
  • critique colloquia, and
  • thematic studio explorations.

Course Requirements

Note: Students are limited to only six (6) credits of graduate-level approved 400-level courses

Art History and Critical Theory
Complete at least 6 credits of the following courses:6
Critical Theories in the Visual Arts I
Critical Theories in Visual Arts II
Graduate-level Art History or open elective chosen in consultation with your advisor
Independent Studio Research
Complete at least 24 credits of the following courses:24
