Educational Leadership

The Department of Educational Leadership empowers individuals to challenge the future by preparing professionals for leadership based on research of best practices, helping individuals to see a better future, developing a future-focused role for leaders, preparing leaders to invent their future and the future of others, influencing individuals to realize what could be, preparing people for an uncertain world, preparing leaders to realize a better future, and applying theory to practice. The Educational Leadership knowledge base emphasizes the realities of the workplace, blending practical tasks with the conceptual models of effective leadership.

Programs

The department offers an M.Ed., Ed.S., and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership along with an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in International Educational Leadership. For those seeking K-12 administrative licensure, the program offers graduate-level certificates in Principal Leadership and Superintendent Leadership. The M.Ed. and graduate certificate programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and The Montana Board of Public Education (BPE).

Admission to Educational Leadership

Applicants should contact the Department of Educational Leadership for admission information. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with reviews of applications completed once a month.

Certification Requirements

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership and the Certificates in Principal Leadership and Superintendent Leadership lead to a Montana Class 3 Administrative Licensure with either a K-12 Principal or a K-12 Superintendent endorsement. Please note that in addition to the coursework and degree requirements, the State of Montana also requires field-based hours, licensed teaching experience for the principal endorsement, and licensed administrative experience for the superintendent endorsement.
