Teaching and Learning M.Ed. - Curriculum Studies

General Graduate Program Requirements

The minimum GPA for any graduate program is 3.0. Individual programs may require more than a 3.0 to remain in good standing. 

The minimum grade for a course to be accepted toward any requirement is C. Individual programs may require higher grades for specific courses.

MASTER OF EDUCATION - TEACHING AND LEARNING; CURRICULUM STUDIES CONCENTRATION

  • Masters students complete a common core and choose a specific area of focus: Elementary (K-8) Licensure or Secondary and K-12 Licensure.
  • All requirements for the degree must be completed within six years, including successful completion of a departmental comprehensive examination and a minimum of 36 graduate credits.
  • While the course listings below describe graduate-level requirements, students in the Elementary (K-8) Licensure and Secondary and K-12 Licensure focus areas must complete additional coursework to be eligible for initial teaching licensure in these areas. Please visit the Department of Teaching and Learning website for an inclusive list of required coursework for these initial teaching licensure programs.

Secondary and K-12 Licensure Focus 2
Complete all of the following courses (14-23 credits):
Discipline of Literacy Strategies (3 credits)

Clinical/Practicum (8 credits taken as 4 two-credit sections)
Methods Course - Complete one of the following as defined by major or minor content area (3-12 credits): 3
History, Science, Mathematics, or Language - 3 credits total
Teaching and Assessing (per subject area - 3 credits)
Methods Teaching Foreign Language
English - 12 credits total
Studies in Young Adult Literature (3 credits)
Teaching Writing in Secondary School (3 credits)

While these course listings describe graduate-level requirements, students in the Secondary and K-12 Licensure focus area must complete additional education coursework to be eligible for initial teaching licensure. Depending upon one’s undergraduate preparation and the content area in which one is pursuing licensure, content coursework may be required as well. Please visit the Department of Teaching and Learning website for an inclusive list of required coursework for the M.Ed. with initial secondary/K-12 licensure.
