Phyllis J. Washington College of Education

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is comprised of three academic departments:

  • Counseling
  • Educational Leadership
  • Teaching and Learning

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is also home to the University of Montana Safe Schools Center, National Natives Children's Trauma Center (NNCTC), The Learning and Belong (LAB) Preschool, and Montana Digital Academy (MTDA).

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is committed to cultivating professional practices that empower human potential. As a community, we embrace knowledge, respect human dignity, and uphold ethical values. Through collaboration, we strive to enhance society’s physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being by generating and sharing knowledge while preparing future counselors, teachers, and educational leaders for success.

The College of Education coordinates the University of Montana Professional Education Unit, a unit comprised of initial teacher preparation at the elementary and secondary levels and the advanced preparation of teachers, educational leaders, and school counselors. The Departments of Teaching and Learning, Educational Leadership, and Counseling prepare professionals for careers through bachelor, master's, specialist, and doctoral degree programs. The teaching and administrative licensure programs in the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education at the University of Montana are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The counseling master’s and doctoral programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The teacher, administrator, and school counseling programs are also accredited by the Montana Board of Public Education.
