Master of Music
General Graduate Program Requirements

The minimum GPA for any graduate program is 3.0. Individual programs may require more than a 3.0 to remain in good standing.
The minimum grade for a course to be accepted toward any requirement is C. Individual programs may require higher grades for specific courses.
MASTER OF MUSIC
- Electives are chosen in consultation with the major advisor.
- Independent study may be substituted for required courses with the approval of the major advisor and the faculty member directing the study.
- At least 50% of the program must be at 500-600 level.
- In addition to graduate courses, three (3) credits of ensemble participation are required.
- A comprehensive oral exam must be passed after the completion of the professional project.
- The professional project will present at least one work using music technology as a compositional tool.
- There are two areas of specialization for the Master of Music degree: Composition or Performance. These are advising tracks only and not official programs as recognized by the University of Montana or the Montana University System. This information will not appear on a UM transcript, diploma, university lists, student data system, or university publication.
